Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students at my school are very sweet, polite and caring. There are a handful of special friends that I work with that either have emotional issues, family issues or need support in interpersonal skills. I particularly admire that many of my kiddos have embraced self-advocacy and ask for brain breaks/cool-down breaks. I provide the space, but also have groups where we learn and practice coping skills. I’m trying to provide more tools and incentives to keep kiddos on track, healthy and confident.

My Project

Students LOVE using the Calm app to meditate and help them calm down when stressed or angry. I’d like them to have their own iPad to use the app, instead of my personal phone. There are also many other social and emotional learning sites/apps that have activities that are useful for many students. I can have students use the Calm app with headphones even when I’m with another student or group. The yoga mats will also be a great addition to small group yoga and meditation. Students come in before school and during the day to meditate.

When students color, they also prefer to use accurate skin tors, when coloring themselves or other people.
