Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As the school year gets into full swing, so is my students' desire to learn. They are present daily with a passion to tackle whatever the day has in store. My class consists of a majority of English language learners, with home countries ranging from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, The Philippines, and Honduras. The zeal that they have for education is one that I want to cultivate and fuel.
Despite varying home life situations, my students come to school with an enthusiasm to learn.
My 26 fifth grade students are eligible for free or reduced lunch. They are a diverse group that embody the melting pot that our community is well known for.
My Project
The emphasis on academics leaves very little time (and resources) to dedicate to art. As the English Learner teacher, 5th grade science teacher, and Student Council advisor, I have the task of keeping students of all learning modalities engaged and interested in the work we do daily. The materials I am requesting will help me reach a variety of learners, by giving them tools to make their work more colorful.
Your donation will give students an opportunity to have access to art supplies in order to express their creative side.
They will be able to add color to their interactive science notebooks, by illustrating and labeling atom models and planets in our solar system. It will help student council make posters for presentations, campaigns, and fundraisers. The supplies will help us unwind after a long week by recreating the works of Picasso, Van Gogh, and Diego Rivera.
Having colored pencils and markers will give them something to look forward to when they have spare time and help bring their illustrations to life. These will ultimately make learning fun, and bring a little more art back into our classroom.
