KCIA Child Protection Curriculum Initiative

My Project

While low social economic status itself doesn't cause child sexual abuse, research suggests that it significantly elevates the risk due to various factors like increased family stress, neighborhood disadvantages, and potential for parental dysfunction. Understanding this link is essential for developing effective prevention and intervention strategies.

Working together as a community, we can protect children and keep them safe from abuse.

The Second Step® Child Protection Unit for Early Learning through Grade 4 provides a multi-layered approach to child safety.

By creating a child protection strategy and educating adults throughout the school, we can be prepared to recognize, respond to, and report abuse. The lessons in the Child Protection Unit help students recognize, report, and refuse unsafe situations.

Please help our school implement this research based curriculum for our student population of 341 K-4th grade students.

KCIA’s focus is creating a world class school with an international focus. Many of KCIA’s students are members of families who have immigrated to Kansas City from more than 25 different countries. Approximately 60% of our students are English Language Learners, who speak over 15 different languages. We embrace the diversity of our student body and we are honored to make a difference in the lives of our vibrant international community of students every day.
