My Students

My students enter my classroom eager to learn. My challenge is to make learning to read enticing and enjoyable. "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you"ll go" ~Dr. Seuss

I teach First grade in a high poverty school.

Within the last year or two we have been through many personnel and program cuts. Our biggest hit was when our reading programs were cut drastically, which has had a major impact in many ways on all of our students.

My Project

When my students receive the Toon Comic Readers, they will gain a new desire for reading. These readers will alleviate the stress of learning to read, by engaging my students. Together, we will explore a whole new world by reading in a variety of ways, such as, whole group, small group, buddy reading and as individuals.

Toon Comic Readers make books as fun and inviting as electronics and other technology.

These books will help encourage my struggling readers, by lessening their frustration level. At the same, they will keep my high readers captivated in reading.
