Social Emotional - Culturally Relevant - Literacy
I'm lucky enough to teach ELA in a Title I Middle School in the Bronx. I work in a school where the majority of students live below the poverty line. My students are funny, kind, thoughtful, and are all eager learners. I am always looking for ways to provide my students with meaningful learning experiences.
My Project
Culturally Relevant Literacy is incredibly important in my classroom. Our school currently does not have a library room. This would help provide our students with access to books. Books of their interest and books that most importantly are culturally relevant. Students will have access to books that support students in all content areas and interests ( STEM) Literacy is so important!
Improving students' literacy will make them more prepared for the future, as all things involve reading and making inferences from one extent to another.
But also, having students see the power in stories and knowing that their own stories are just as important and powerful is just as important!

Please consider helping me recreate my classroom library! My students must keep up with the latest advancements in education to spark an interest in reading. Education is changing every single day, and so are the interest of my students. My school does not have a large collection of books, so I would like to have books that will hold their interests and keep them reading in my classroom.
Throughout most of the pandemic, our students didn't read as much as they could've. Now our kiddies are deep diving into books and we are running out !! Please consider donating!!
