This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a public, Title I school nestled in the heart of near north side of downtown Houston. Our campus is a high preforming school with respectful, loving, and driven children who come to school eager to learn each day. Most of the students come from economically disadvantaged households, and in spite of this barrier have a passion for learning. They thrive on what they have learned during class in different ways and crave the opportunity to expand their knowledge in science.
My students love hands-on science activities that allow them to be inquisitive, active, and engaged learners.
Science allows students to be critical thinkers and problem solvers. I feel that every student should have the opportunity to explore science in their classroom with a hands-on approach. It is my mission to build up the science laboratory, so all students have access to these resources.
My Project
Students need these tools to make proper observations and measurements while conducting science experiments. The requested graduated cylinders, beakers, thermometers, and primer balances will give teachers the ability to teach physical science concepts.
Scientific tools are essential resources needed for my students to develop process skills in analyzing scientific data.
These tools will allow my students to make inferences on experimental questions, take accurate measurements, and observe living organisms. These resources will help promote teaching science in the primary grade levels, and scaffold learning to fifth grade therefore emphasizing science instruction campus-wide. The goal is to scaffold learning from the lower grade levels to fifth grade.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
