Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach elementary students with special needs in a school composed mainly of low socio-economic working families where the majority of the students' second language is English. Some of our students have little, if any, academic support at home.

Ever forget how to spell a difficult word? My students have difficulty remembering the simple words. They can express their ideas in creative and meaningful compositions, but spelling errors often lead me to ask, "What does this say?" A trip through the dictionary is a long journey, and is only helpful if they can read it.

It would be great to have the Children's Talking Dictionary and Spell Correctors for the students to correct their own spelling mistakes. By using the dictionary, they would be able to hear and see the word simultaneously. They could hear definitions and improve their reading skills without relying on me to help them. Our time would be used more efficiently and effectively.

Imagine the success these students will feel as their spelling and vocabulary skills expand. Imagine the feeling of pride they will experience when praised for their coherent work. You will make it possible for them to build their self-confidence as students and writers.
