Kan Jam and Sports

Help me give my students Tetherballs, basketballs, Soccer balls, footballs, Kan Jam Tournament Pack - Disc Toss Game, Folding Mancala Game, and snacks to keep them going in an after-school program.

My Students

Our school is located in the inner city with underprivileged families striving for a better life. Single parents, grandparents, and older siblings continue to do their very best to instill a better way of living for their families. They face many challenges, but that doesn't impede them from wanting to learn or stop them from dreaming big.

We are 95% African American, 2% Haitian American, 2% Hispanic, and 1% Caucasian, with 97% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.

Teachers create a safe, fun, and empowering classroom for our students to help them thrive in all areas of their lives. I love our students and spend most of my out-of-the-classroom time developing projects to enhance their learning and well-being.

My Project

At our school, we have a district supported after-school program designed to level the playing field between our low economic students and their wealthier peers at other schools. This program includes all sports, dance, gardening, art, homework help, individual online learning programs, and chess. This program is designed to promote attendance and interest in school. The students selected to participate are those most at risk of failing. And of course, the student's favorite portion of the program is the sports segment.

Supporting this project will help these vulnerable students as they are engaged in exciting enrichment that will support them in being successful at school.

They will play basketball, football, soccer, and with playground ball games, learning the rules and how to work as a team. Folding Mancala Game will be played during a break in active sports time which will give kids a chance to catch their breath. Learning to play Kan Jam is not only easy to learn but but can be played by kids of all ages. It will be a great addition to our game time. This game will be used at school to create an abundance of screaming - letting out lots of energy. Our school used to have a tether ball game, but after three years of daily use it has broken and it is time to replace it.

Frito-Lay Variety Pack, Party Mix, 40 Count Assorted, will help with hungry after-school students and their hungry bellies

Students at our school are still required to wear masks unless their parents opt them out, so we still need more masks because COVID is not over yet.

All of this will help with fitness teamwork, socialization, communication, fine and gross motor skills, decision making, just to name a few.
