This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Literacy Coach and work with the primary grades assisting teachers with the Teachers College Writing Workshop.
Due to the new school budget reconfigurations, we lost monies to purchase the necessary office supplies, including basics like paper. Teachers must get every copy request approved by the administration. The primary grades use writing folders and tons of paper. For writing projects, the children use paper formatted with lines for writing and a box for drawing. They might make three to four page booklets each day with this type of paper. The Students also use checklists and rubrics for each unit of study, such as spelling and editing, to guide their writing. These checklists and rubrics also need to be photocopied.
The copy paper we are requesting will be used to make copies of the these kinds of paper, rubrics, and checklists for the writing workshop in grades K-2. Teachers will no longer be apprehensive about the quantity of copies needed to run a smooth workshop.
Your help will ensure that students have the fundamental tools needed to write! During the writing process, students will be able to draft, revise and edit their work. They also will be able to refer to their checklists and rubrics to make sure they are on the right track.
