Can you imagine that in 2013 there exists a classroom without any computer technology? It is a reality in my classroom. Computers are expensive so as a teacher I've come up with a solution to allow my students access to electronic resources- an LCD projector using resources from my laptop!
My students are in grade K-2 and have been diagnosed with autism and/or an intellectual disability.
Our classroom is in a large urban school district that is currently in a severe funding crisis. My kids love to come to school and are very eager to learn. My people are little and squirmy. They enjoy moving around the classroom space. They especially love interacting with our plain old white board when something is projected upon it.
My Project
Many teachers want iPads for their classrooms. I don't. I don't want my kids to isolate themselves in a corner with a small piece of technology. By projecting images onto my whiteboard, I can engage multiple students at once. They can get out their seats to dance to songs, write answers on a worksheet projected onto a whiteboard, and have access to online books and educational videos. It's no smart board, but I'm willing to be creative with more affordable technology!
The only computer in the room is my laptop.
An LCD projector will allow me to provide my students access to the endless amount of free online educational resources, saving money on paper resources.
