This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My IB history students are bold, curious thinkers ready to question the world around them. Many are Black or Latino youth who bring powerful personal insight to historical topics like apartheid, civil rights, authoritarianism, and global independence movements. They are preparing for a rigorous international curriculum in a school where access to updated resources, high-quality books, and even basic materials is limited. Yet, they never stop pushing themselves. I want to give them the classroom they deserve.

This project is about building student voice—literally and figuratively—by giving them a podium, a platform, and the power of knowledge.

We are requesting a classroom podium so students can confidently present their research for IB history papers, along with culturally responsive books that center underrepresented narratives in global history. We also need storage bins to organize our texts and classroom basics—pencils, paper, pens—so that no student has to worry about having the tools they need. The books connect directly to our course themes and case studies, from the Civil Rights Movement and apartheid to global revolutions and resistance. With these resources, students will not only analyze historical documents—they’ll find their place within the broader global story and build the skills to defend their ideas with clarity and confidence.

Every item requested represents an opportunity. A podium becomes a stage for student voice. A pencil becomes a tool of analysis. A book becomes a window to identity, resistance, and empowerment.
