Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

There is a definite buzz in the air. Imagine 24 eager and enthusiastic learners all talking at the same time! Well, believe me when I say, "It's all good!"

These budding readers and creative thinkers are talking about the world around them.

From new shoes to muddy pigs to courageous firefighters, they are sharing their growing knowledge with others. They enjoy communicating orally and reenacting fairy tales using props and puppets. My students participate in Transitional Kindergarten in an urban setting. My students qualify for the federally funded lunch program. Most of my students are learning English as a second language.

My Project

Students will be able to read these nonfiction books independently using the text and picture clues. They will be encouraged to read with a buddy and discuss the facts that they uncover. I will also use the books to introduce, enhance and review topics that are taught in the classroom. My students need high interest reading material. They need access to easy and engaging materials daily. These books will be available to students during our time together at school. These books will also be available for students to borrow so that they can continue reading at home with family members.

This collection of nonfiction titles will help my students expand their knowledge base and will help create a more balanced classroom library.

My goal is to create a foundation for later learning. My Transitional Kindergarten students need access to both fiction and nonfiction.
