Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
For some of my students, just getting to school is a miracle. Our school is situated in a gang infested, crime riddled neighborhood, and several of our students relish the safety and security that the school building provides. They work hard to achieve good grades and learn important life skills. Subsequently, hopes of college are alive and well in the hallways because they know that their options are limited. Our students are bright and hungry, but our resources are limited.
My Project
My students need pencils and journals to create collaborative writing journals. These journals will be used to set goals, supplement learning, and house creative expression. Some of the work in these journals will be transferred to school wide publications such as the yearbook, newsletters, and the literary magazine.
Students will use these materials to write for a variety of purposes.
Offering students an expressive venue to share and create writing will enhance curricular writing across a variety of disciplines. Students will also be able to evaluate and edit each other's writing in a more informal atmosphere leading to a deeper understanding.
