I teach a group of very eager to learn second graders in New York. Our school is a melting pot of cultures, which helps create a rich and warm learning environment.
My students are learning to hone their reading, writing, math and thinking skills. They have just finished first grade and must now look towards the testing coming up in third. But before they become preoccupied with state and national tests, they have the opportunity to really enjoy the learning process as they explore the academic world with the tools they have.
In order to explore and master the subjects they are learning, my students need some basic supplies. We are desperately in need of supplies such as chart paper, pencils, sharpeners, staplers, scissors and pens. When students don't have the most basic of materials, time and energy is spent on searching for what to use instead of the actual work and creative process.
