My students are my second set of kids! My students are first graders that come from an area of very high economic need in Irvington. They are curious, thoughtful, and eager learners. This is the period of time when they are learning to love school: a love that will hopefully follow them for years to come. Their passion for keeping learning despite the odds inspires me.
Being given the tools to succeed in the virtual learning environment will make a huge difference!
My Project
Students need to have a variety of books to choose from when they are learning to read. These books are interesting, fun, and engaging. Best of all, they are on the "Just Right" levels of the individuals in my first grade classroom!
These books cover a variety of topics and are fiction and nonfiction, which will captivate even my hardest to reach students.
Reading is the keystone to every other lesson and skill in elementary school, and these books will give my students a leg up in learning to read! The bins will allow the books to be sorted so that the kids can find their own level books all by themselves!
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
