My students are very active, energetic, and enthusiastic. They enjoy coming to school, learning new things, and playing with friends. As we work to foster a positive school environment, my students learn what it means to be respectful, responsible, and productive students.
As a teacher in a Title I school, many of my students live in areas of high poverty.
All of the students I teach are provided free breakfast and lunch each day. My students also have the option to participate in a free after school program in which dinner is provided. This program provides struggling students with the extra support they need to be successful in school and in life.
My Project
We are currently working on building our classroom libraries in our first grade classrooms so that students will have a variety of book choices for independent reading time. It is so important for students to not only have choice in what they would like to read, but to also have some books in which they are able to read most of the words independently. Additionally, we want the books to be fun and engaging for students. These books will provide students with FUN, engaging texts that they can use to practice the reading strategies they are learning in class and grow as readers.
