My students need books at their independent reading level to practice their reading skills and become successful readers!

My Students
My students are readers! They learned this on the first day of kindergarten. As we have begun to discover books, learn new skills, and develop a love of learning, students are building their confidence and are excited to read and learn new things!
My students don't necessarily come to school with preschool or daycare experience.
Many skills are being introduced for the first time. There are many languages spoken in our class and while the diversity is wonderful, it can make for communication challenges. I have many parents that want to help in the classroom, but most are not able to because they work. This group of students this year are very verbal, social, and imaginative. They love to explore and learn new things.
My Project
Every day the students in my class choose books to read and practice their reading skills. After reading a few books, they get to choose their favorite from their book box that day and share that book with a friend during partner reading time. This allows students to share interests and show off their new reading skills. Having more books to choose from will keep their interest in reading alive and growing.
As readers, we need to practice reading books that are not too easy yet not too hard.
They are Just Right Books! While we have some books in the classroom, it isn't very fun to read the same books over and over and not get a chance to practice our reading skills in new books to learn new things. These leveled books will give us that chance.
