Help me give my students an opportunity to read true examples of the struggle for justice by an African-American author who is still working for fair treatment in our judicial system.
Students have been very moved by the real-life struggle of the people in Just Mercy. I am hoping to expand my number of titles to facilitate at-home learners as well. Students should feel represented in the works we cover, and Just Mercy gives them an example of how people can make a difference in the lives of others. We watched Stevenson's Ted Talk and the 60 Minutes episode concerning this case to expand on the content of the book. I hope to continue my students' high interest in this important work.
