This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Children learn best through play. I believe it is important for children to see themselves reflected in their classroom. Whether it is through the toy in their environment or the paint they use to make their unique skin colors, children deserve access to materials that represent their diversity. As children who live in the city, my students would benefit from pretend play imagining living amongst trees and mountains.
These materials will promote love for all the diverse cultures in our world.
Students will engage in dramatic play about families and communities during center time. Representation is key for my students who come from diverse backgrounds and cultures. I can’t wait to engage in important conversations with my students as they develop their understanding about the world.
