My Students
Everybody loves a good story. It's even better when you get to be the story teller! Students will learn from the best as they take their cues from the beloved book character, Julian, in his debut novel The Stories Julian Tells.
My students are the picture of America.
They come from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds and lifestyles. Unfortunately, most also come with great needs financially and academically. With several receiving free and reduced lunches and academic accommodations for learning differences, working together is a major component of our daily school life. Each child brings their own strengths, and weaknesses to our class, and we are all better for the diversity. Every student wants to feel safe and successful. We work hard to create an environment where everyone feels like a key contributor. My students are curious, humorous, and zealous. They enjoy learning with their eyes, ears, and hands. As a classroom family, students work together, learn from each other, and strive for personal goals of personal best.
My Project
My students need a class set of 30 of the book The Stories Julian Tells. Imagine a classroom not divided by "haves" and "have-nots" but where everyone is working from the same page. Literally! With a class set of The Stories Julian Tells, we will be working together to learn from a model story teller. Students will use these books in a unit that will integrate reading, writing, and speaking.
We learn so much through imitation.
Working with a model like the character, Julian, students will grow stronger as readers, writers, and speakers. The powers of persuasion will be life skills we hone as we work together through The Stories Julian Tells.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
