My Students

I work in the South Bronx, teaching grade 6 ELA, at a middle school where 99% of the students qualify for free lunch. They attend school regularly and exhibit a willingness to learn despite their circumstances.

My students live and attend school in the poorest congressional district in the United States.

They appreciate all the help that they can get. It is difficult for them to bring classroom supplies, let alone help for the extra things we need in class. They are thankful for all that they receive and show their appreciation in words and their work.

My Project

I am asking for two sets of high yield toner for our classroom color printer. My students need ink to print their published and researched work. Getting copies back in a timely manner in our school is almost impossible. It is by no means the fault of our school, but sometimes people put in huge requests and it is impossible to get back my own copies for days.

My students need ink for our copy machine so that that can publish their typed word document and PowerPoint work.

This will in turn give my students a sense of accomplishment. It would also build their confidence as writers and provide them with the opportunity to see and share their work in print. I would definitely consider myself, at times, a spur of the moment teacher. If an assignment sounds fun that a student has found in a book, I love to do it if I can. But sometimes that requires copies being made and I have no instant access to ink for our copy machine. Anything that I do want copied requires approval and must be submitted in advance, so it makes things really difficult.
