My special day class is a safe environment in which my students may learn and grow as individuals. I foster each of my students' varying academic and behavioral needs.
The students range from 6th to 8th grade in a Surf City, USA middle school.
Although my students are indoors learning, they surf the pages of their textbooks daily for knowledge. Their minds are open, and they are eager to learn as they prepare for the next level of their educations in high school.
My Project
A classroom subscription to TIME For Kids will provide my students the opportunity to read a weekly newsmagazine that covers a wide range of real-world topics. These nonfiction texts will build literacy skills and help my students become better informed and active citizens (TIME For Kids, 2017).
TIME For Kids will engage, empower, and inspire!
My students will engage with informational text, 21st century reading opportunities, and accessibility supports. My students will be empowered to practice thinking analytically about topics they read. My students will be inspired by rich media, relevant reading, and content-area reading that interests them. Providing my students access to this supplemental text will help encourage lifelong learning inside and outside of the classroom. In turn, they may be in a position to donate to others when they grow up, and they will remember the generosity shown to them through DonorsChoose.org.
