"Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable.... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals." ~Martin Luther King, Jr
My school is a challenging campus as we draw from a variety of socioeconomic and ethnically diverse groups.
On my campus, there are a large number of students who will be first-time college-bound students -- some of them first-time high school graduates in their families! What a tribute to their families! My students have the drive to learn, to achieve, and to succeed enough to get them into college. All they need to succeed is dedication along with a guide to help them learn how to study, how to be proud of their work and have confidence in themselves!
My Project
I am requesting one Hokki Stool, an ergonomic stool that transforms stationary sitting into an activity. The Hokki Stool allows students to move in all directions in a safe manner, which can lead to more productive brainstorming sessions. Students that have a difficult time sitting still are also able to focus better on the lesson in the classroom because they are able to move in a controlled manner while sitting on the Hokki Stool! Physical activity leads to great brain activity!
Middle school is the last opportunity for my students to close the gap in their mathematical skill and thinking before they head off to the high school.
The materials that have been requested for this project will allow some of my more active students to continue to be active during class while focusing on the lesson at the same time! A win- win situation!
