My Students

Every day, over 150 students come through my classroom. During music, I try to take away the stresses of their lives and give them a place to be themselves and make music. We love to move, sing, dance, and play instruments! We especially love to create music and play our creations.

I teach in a high poverty school of around 630 students.

Though many of my students come from difficult situations, they are happy and excited to learn! I consider all of my students to be my children and do what I can to help them discover their inner musician.

My Project

Our class sizes range from 22 students to 33 students. We simply don't have enough instruments to reach all of our students in our highest populated classrooms. Ten hand drums would make a world of difference as we move into our rhythm unit. Not only does it reinforce rhythm but it also helps with hand eye coordination and so much more! We plan on using these drums during class, performances, as well as our afterschool instrument club.

Children need to "do" in order to learn.

Ten hand drums would help tremendously in providing my students with real instruments to practice on. Success gives students a sense of confidence and will help encourage them in future activities.
