My Project

Hello, potential donors! As a math interventionist, I have the privilege of working with students who are facing challenges in math, both in general education and those with special needs., While not all students are always motivated to grow, I’ve found that they thrive when learning is creative and engaging. This is why I constantly seek new ways to help them grasp foundational concepts in math. This project is designed to bring in tools that will support their learning in a hands-on, meaningful way.

Understanding the foundations of place value, an area that is critical for both math success and future financial literacy.

Play money allows my students to manipulate bills and coins, helping them build a concrete understanding of place value by directly seeing the relationship between numbers and currency. This tactile experience will enhance their ability to grasp abstract concepts like ones, tens, and hundreds in ways that traditional methods cannot. Manipulatives help take abstract concepts and make them tangible, students can visualize and physically interact with the numbers, making learning more meaningful.

The read-aloud books will complement the hands-on practice with engaging stories that connect math to everyday life. These books reinforce concepts like counting, saving, and spending, which are critical building blocks not only for math success but for financial literacy skills that they will carry into adulthood. These stories will help students see the importance of these skills beyond the classroom and into the real world.

My goals for this project are to ensure that my students not only master the basics of place value a critical concept that supports future success in math but also begin building the foundation for future financial literacy. Understanding how numbers work is key to understanding how money works—an essential skill they will carry with them throughout their lives.
