This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My classroom supports a wide variety of physical and learning needs. From creating and providing adaptive paper for writing assignments to role modeling recess behavior, my classroom is ready to transform itself to whatever helps my students succeed in school. But what helps my students the most is having a sense of belonging and meaning at school. During the year, my students worked towards a sea monkey tank and they spent a majority of their structured free time taking care of it. For many, it was their favorite part of school and the sea monkeys encouraged them to come everyday to see their class pet.
Having a class pet fish can help promote responsibility and care at school.
The fish tank products I have listed are meant to not only inspire curiosity, but help engage my students as academics can be an obstacle in caring for their school community. The fish tank will help promote their mental health by providing an area of focus they can take pride in and show off to their peers and families. And when students are dysregulated at school, the fish tank can also serve as a calming space.
