Do you remember your high school math class? Did math come to you easily? Did you spend hours reviewing your notes and still not understand? During the year we create many graphic organizers and other projects. Please help us start the year with a few basic supplies.
My students are in a high poverty school.
Over 90% of my students receive free or reduced price lunch. It is difficult to get them to school and even harder to get them here with supplies ready to learn. Once they enter my classroom, my focus is on them. Many can not afford the basic supplies to assist their learning let alone additional supplies to enrich their learning. Many of them had me last year and many more did not. I am trying to prepare my students for college and the world. Many jobs and colleges require collaboration skills. I am creating an environment where collaboration is strong and all students should have the tools to express their ideas. With pencils, scissors, post-it notes and staplers, I am trying to provide an environment that is ready to learn.
My Project
I teach mostly Geometry classes during the school day. I also teach once Liberal Arts Mathematics (a bridge between Algebra and Geometry) course. Many of my students can not afford the basic supplies, let alone supplies to help organize them. Using post-it notes is a great way for students to organize their thoughts. Also, the X-Y Axis stamp is the perfect size to create coordinate planes for their notes. Many of these supplies may seem basic to you or I, but my students can not afford them. Please help them create a graph and have a pencil to fill in the information and stay organized when they take notes. They need you to help them learn.
Preparing students for college and the world with math is very challenging.
Student have spent their lives being told they are no good in math. I want to create an environment that is educational with activities that help my students become successful in math. Please help me purchase supplies to make learning fun and keep my students engaged!
