it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Frogs, butterflies, and rainforest curriculum, Oh My! What better way to learn about our rainforest theme then to see the life-cycle of a frogs and butterflies right before your eyes! Our gifted program students also need some colorful animal picture books on our rainforest theme.
Our gifted program students are highly motivated learners from four high poverty schools.
They deserve the opportunity to observe hands-on live animal based learning about our rainforest theme. Our students get really excited about hands-on learning and have requested live animals for this coming up school year. Each year the Gifted program gets a new theme that we teach the gifted skills through. When the students were informed of the new gifted theme, they all wanted live animals and plants to aid in their learning and I'm doing my best to deliver their request.
My Project
The butterflies and frogs allow our students a unique opportunity to see live animals go through the life cycle before their very eyes! This year we are studying the rainforest as our gifted theme and I want the kids to have the rainforest brought to them through hands-on learning. In addition to the live animals, colorful rainforest books and a teacher guide will help the children learn more in depth and respond to higher level thinking activities. The Rainforest CD will create the atmosphere in the classroom and let the students listen to the real sounds of the animals that live there. The rainforest pencils and stickers will help motivate my students to keep trying when the material gets challenging and to keep moving forward with the gifted curriculum throughout the 2011-2012 school year.
Your potential contribution will help us make a difference in our gifted program because it would affect many children's lives in a positive way.
Keeping our gifted students interested and motivated involves resources that our district can't supply due to the budget concerns this year. Gifted students have a high energy level and most of them are very motivated to learn so they need a classroom that facilitates hands-on learning.
