Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students generally come from low-income families that live around the school neighborhood located in the Southeast area of San Diego. Most of my students are African American and Latino, followed by students from the Pacific Islands or Asian backgrounds.
Our school is a unique place.
The school has a great percentage of students with special needs; therefore, our school needs to be equipped with technological devices, lab tools and materials, and other resources that will guarantee that all students have what they need to learn and succeed adequately.
My Project
A group of my students created flyers for the Commemoration of Juneteenth, which marked the end of slavery in USA. As we all know, systemic racism, hatred and prejudice against all minority groups are still vivid in our country. It is crucial for educators to discuss with students about the injustice and mistakes from our history in order to teach students how to embrace a peaceful and loving society among all of us. Therefore, I assigned five students the task of researching the Juneteenth event and design flyers through a Google Applied Digital Skills lesson. These students will share the flyers and knowledge of the Emancipation Day with the rest of the class.
As a reward for the students' effort in learning and creating flyers about the Juneteenth Celebration, each one of them will receive items they have selected from Amazon.
These project does not need extra funding. Only a matching opportunity would suffice. Students already received a Google DC gift code, which will be used to fund this project.
