Jumpstart to College: Fueling Futures with Food, Supplies & Support

My Project

My Students:

Our students are talented, curious, and full of potential—but many lack the resources and guidance to confidently pursue college and career pathways.

As a public charter arts high school serving over 60% of students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals, we know that basic needs must be met before academic goals can be achieved. Many of our students are first-generation college-bound and face barriers including limited access to mentorship, financial aid guidance, and career exploration opportunities.

My Project:

This summer, we are launching a College Jumpstart Program for rising juniors and seniors—offered twice across the break—where students will spend five consecutive days diving into career exploration, college options, scholarships, applications, and financial aid.

To make this program effective and equitable, we are requesting nutritious breakfast items and midmorning snacks to help students stay focused and engaged throughout the three-hour daily sessions. In addition, we’re seeking interactive curriculum supplies such as writing tools, printed resources, visual planning tools, and career-themed activities to keep learning hands-on and student-centered.

The Goal:

We believe that starting early—and with the right support—can drastically improve our students’ college application, acceptance, and scholarship success rates. Our goal is to build this summer program into a cornerstone of our school's postsecondary culture, growing each year and helping more students see college as both possible and achievable.
