Help me give my students more opportunities to play and create. I am asking for STEAM materials that will be used to create our very own STEAM room on campus!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a school counselor to an elementary school in a low income/high poverty neighborhood, I have become very familiar with the everyday struggles that our students face. While I cannot change the environment in which the students call home, I strive to provide all the resources and tools for our students at school in order to help them achieve both academically and socially.
Our students crave the love and support that is provided by our teachers and staff on a daily basis.
While many of our students come from single-parent homes with multiple siblings, positive attention is not always given. School is their "safe place." Just as we hold expectations for our students, our students hold expectations for us that go beyond the academic curriculum.
Our students are young, bright and determined. Despite the apparent achievement gaps and economic status of our families, our students are determined to grow and positively impact our world.
My Project
Our school is one that prides itself on our passion for STEAM learning. Due to severe budget issues, we seldom have the materials needed to provide our students with the STEAM background that we want them to have. With the tools that we are requesting, our goal is create a STEAM lab on campus that will meet the needs of all of our students!
We see the love of creating and building and want to help nurture that passion so that they will learn problem solving skills to help them throughout their lives.
With your donation to our project, our students will have so many opportunities to build and problem solve using these high quality and highly motivational STEAM tools. The Wooden Planks, Q-Ba-Maze, Snap Circuit Lights and the Robot Kits will all take our students thinking to a whole new level. They will work together to build prototypes, read and follow instructions and learn about various people that are in various STEAM roles.
