My Students
Math can be a challenging experience for many and fourth grade is an important year for working with concepts built on the basics of number sense, including work with fractions. The JUMP Math approach will help break those new concepts into manageable pieces so all students can be successful!
My students are a great group of 4th graders from a rural town in Pennsylvania.
They love having fun, but know how to get the work done. Despite all of our hard work, many continue to struggle with the very basics of math, which focuses on skills they will need throughout the rest of their lives. With the implementation of the new Common Core Standards, expectations in math are higher than they have ever been before. Through this project, I hope to be able to continue to instill a love of math in my students, while still helping them to become better critical thinkers and problem solvers.
My Project
With the help of the JUMP Math approach, my students have a wonderful opportunity to experience success in math. This program will help me help them develop a deeper understanding of math concepts with a classroom set of JUMP Math workbooks, assessments, and teacher's guides. Currently, my school district has not provided teachers with any materials to teach the new Common Core Standards. The JUMP Math program will be an invaluable tool because it includes many resources showing and explaining the key concepts in fourth grade math and breaks these key concepts into manageable pieces. These resources will help me differentiate my teaching by allowing me to meet the needs of my highest and lowest students, and all those in between! Providing a solid foundation for math in fourth grade will benefit my students for years to come. My goal is that all my students will experience success with 4th grade math and will develop a deeper understanding and passion for the subject I so dearly love!
