My Project
I am a kindergarten through second-grade special education teacher in my hometown elementary school of Bradford, Pennsylvania. My classroom provides emotional and autistic support services. The classroom focuses on relationships, routines, and reinforcement, as students work towards individual goals and curriculum.
All of our students want to learn, and we want to teach them by focusing and designing for their individualized needs.
Students want to move, and we want to see them moving. They want to stay in control and feel good about themselves, and we want to offer ways to help them reach this goal. This project can achieve all three goals by funding sensory jump pads and tumbling mats that allow them to work on balance and spatial awareness.
The tumbling mats and sensory jump pads will be used for sensory integration. The jump (crash) pads will enhance our sensory play area by adding opportunities for imaginative play. The mats and pads allow children to release energy and engage in heavy work. These activities will help students with self-regulation.
