This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Due to the uncertainty of what will happen in the Fall for a new school year, my students need to be prepared and ready for a virtual learning school year and a face to face classroom environment with school manipulatives and supplies to assist them at home.

My students are resilient, hard-working individuals and enthusiastic about learning.

They come from diverse socially and economically challenged environments.

With the impact caused by COVID through the sheltering in place in March, my students did not have the school math supplies or materials such as manipulatives at home to assist them with their math concepts throughout our distance learning lessons.

This presented a challenge to my students' parents with not being able to maintain the consistency of school math supplies and materials needed at home to assist their child with their education. They would benefit from having access to supplies and materials such as manipulatives readily available at home from the start!

My Project

Students use manipulatives to help build their foundation of math skills in the classroom. They learn to use math mats, counters, base ten blocks, and a variety of math tools to support their learning. Having these materials at home will give my students the opportunity to continue their learning as if we were at school as well.

If students are provided with supplies and materials to work from home, this will help them have some type of consistency from school to home when working through lessons virtually.

Students learn best using math tools such as manipulatives and math mats to support their learning with new math concepts.
