This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help my students become problem solvers! They need the jump-start that JUMP Math can provide in practicing and reviewing basic math concepts. These English language learners need to practice and to hear each other speak mathematically. JUMP Math can ensure their success.

Our students attend a small, well-loved, inner-city public elementary school that has been in this community for many, many years.

Students come from other parts of the city to attend this bilingual school that has a vision of graduating students who are resilient, and culturally aware life-long learners. More than 95% of our students qualify for free or reduced-priced lunch. More than 70% are English Language Learners. 100% of them are amazing, delightful, and deserving of everything that we can provide for them.

My Project

Some students in my class seem to have math anxiety! This program, JUMP Math, featured in an April 18, 2011 New York Times article, will provide them with the comfort of simple, incremental learning steps and repeated practice on basic concepts. The program allows them the necessary time to master the many standards taught at this grade level. This will ensure success for all my students.

If my most math-challenged students can excel through JUMP Math, then all my students will benefit.

They will be able to go at a faster pace and master all the demanding concepts of 4th grade. This in turn will prepare them for the increasing difficulty of middle school algebra and problem solving. Think of it--a class of math scholars fully prepared for middle school, high school, and beyond! Your donations will make that possible.
