Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My student come from a diverse neighborhood where many face great poverty. Our student body is comprised of students who all receive 100% free and reduced cost lunches. The students I teach are special needs students with varying disabilities.
Jump Start is a section of our Sensations Club where students have developed a café style business that runs before and after school.
Students in this club learn how to become young entrepreneurs by first creating a business plan then working through all of the needs a business requires from marketing all the way to delivery of product to the customer.
The proceeds from the profits are used to support student’s senior expenses. The students not only learn work ethic and great workplace skills, Burt also take great pride in being able to support their own expense related to end of year activities and take the financial burden away from their families.
My Project
The expresso machine will support special needs students with hands on real world work experience. They will build a business plan to create a real café where they will learn all aspects of being a small business owner. The expresso machine will bring authenticity to a student ran business. It will help our students with disabilities to acquire work related skills to become successful members of their community. Having early work place experience sets the students up for success after high school. Jump Start Café continues to be a safe place for students to learn and grow.
