This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Remember when you were a kid and you couldn’t wait for the day in gym. In PE, everyday was different. You could be a superhero, Tarzan, a baseball player, the possibilities of the imagination was endless. I remember this vividly, which I now see through the eyes of my students. My kids LOVE PE and have missed it so much.
I work at a small, Title I community school in the South Bronx.
Most of my students have been with me from kindergarten and we are very much a family. As we start this bumpy school year, we are faced with a lot of challenges (my students love challenges) in order to stay safe. Now, more than ever, we have to be creative and resilient as a school community. I have dedicated myself to ensure my students have the most fun and bring back those smiles in the safest way possible.
What my students need are 4 mini trampolines to accommodate all students, including special needs, while allowing for safety. This allows for minimal contact with equipment, social distancing and maximum fun. Not to mention it’s a killer workout. I mean...who doesn’t love trampolines?
My Project
These materials will provide vital movement, inclusive of all students, regardless of age, ability and needs which will provide safe and fun movement that follows safety guidelines. Our students will be hybrid, so all will benefit. It is imperative that students are afforded the opportunity to move, now more then ever, while keeping them happy and healthy.
Since our students will be in smaller groups, they can use these trampolines to jump, run, allow for teacher and student lead exercise.
The possibilities are endless and EXTREMELY versatile. When they are done, this equipment can me easily sanitized for the next group of students. This allows for maximum use, ease of cleaning and cardiovascular exercise. These types of equipment can be used as a full lesson, a warm up or used in station work. In addition, I have carefully chosen the equipment at various levels to ensure they are age appropriate, translates easily to all students, safe and practical.
Finally, not only will the equipment be of immense value immediately, it will be a huge addition to my PE program in the future, hopefully in better times. My kids really need this boost. This will be just what they need.
