Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We currently have an iPad but we need to update it with new apps and books. My students love their interactive books and are craving for more.
I am the art specialist in a K-5 Arts school.
We are located in one of the poorest rural areas of the state. Our families are plagued by poverty and high unemployment rates. I see about 975 students every week, from kindergarten though grade five. All of the students receive free or reduced lunch. The student population is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian, and 1% Asian. About 70% of the students in my room are learning English as a second language.
My Project
Last year, our classroom was provided, through DonorsChoose, a new iPad . This iPad hasn't been used to its full potential due to costly apps and books. I am requesting five $50 iTunes gift cards to be able to buy new apps and books for my students. Although we have the resources, we now need access to iTunes. iTunes sells many ibooks, applications and music for a very small cost. These gift cards will fund our interests for a long time. It is extremely important in this day and age to keep our students engaged in class including art. I want them to be eager to come to class and excited about different ways of learning. With these possible resources I will be able to provide endless opportunities for my students to explore, opportunities that are too often not provided in their general education classroom.
My classroom does not have student computers.
Having new apps and books on our iPad will allow students the exposure to new types of technology. These gift cards will be used to purchase and sync our iPad with new and updated material.
It is so important for our students to be exposed to technology because not all of them have computers or other technology at home. We need to give them the best shot at a successful future!
