Shared reading would be one of the most favorite times of our day. The children in my class are engaged in literacy in so many other ways...but we lack one important element: a big book stand to make big books available to one and ALL.
I teach students with autism in grades Second and Third.
We are in a self-contained school with students with autism ranging from Kindergarten to 22 years old. We depend a lot on the use of visuals in the classroom to help the children be successful in their day. The students I serve have varying levels of skills and need.
My Project
So many skills can be taught through this whole group learning time, but I have not been able to share any of my big books with students without fumbling around, trying to hold it up myself. Having this big book stand would allow each and every student to see the book in front of them.
My students are also very eager to read the big books themselves and they too are fumbling with pages and the books. The students are getting very frustrated not being able to use the big books.
By funding this project, you would be making a tremendous impact on the literacy lives of these students.
Please, support me in providing them with the best education possible. You will help make literacy a fun time in the classroom.
