Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a P.E. teacher, I am fortunate to interact with all the elementary students that attend my school at least twice a week. They enjoy P.E. because, in my class, we strive to get every student involved and try to make something great happen every day. My students accept challenges and always rise to the expectation that is set for them. This attitude is especially impressive when you consider that my students make up the most diverse group of people I have ever encountered.
I teach at a Title I School in Nevada in which a high percentage of my students come from bilingual homes and receive free lunch.
My students often face tough obstacles in their lives but arrive at school smiling and ready to learn. They love their teachers and they adore their principal. Our school truly is a community – a family. We each do our part, as students and teachers work side by side with one mission in mind: our students’ success. Each classroom in our school has their college graduation date written on the board. We help the students set their goals high and we strive to help them achieve those goals.

My Project
I use jump ropes in a variety of ways in my elementary P.E. class. My students use jump ropes to practice balance, build endurance, and increase cardiovascular fitness. They use jump ropes for games and activities for all the grades that I teach. My school is also a proud participant of the American's Heart Association's Kid's Heart Challenge (formerly known as Jump Rope for Heart). However, many of our long, 16-foot jump ropes are coming to the end of their journey. My entire collection of long ropes are from 2014. These ropes have endured 5 years of P.E., field day, and extracurricular games.
My students need additional long jump ropes to replenish the deteriorating collection of ropes that our school currently has.
These ropes will have an immediate impact on all 600 of my students. I will be able to teach new jump rope concepts to my classes if I have a greater inventory of jump ropes. I can create better, more appropriate groups for my jump roping activities when I have the correct number of jump ropes for my classes. Your donation would open up a plethora of possibilities for the many students of my school. I thank you all for your kindness and for making a difference for all my young students.
