This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is full of fun energetic first graders! They are creative and eager to please. Illustrating and build fine motor skills are crucial to their development at this stage.

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.

Despite the many challenges they face, they come to school each and every day eager to learn and do their best. But how can I do my best when I do not have access to the needed materials? How can we close the achievement gap when students do not have the necessary tools to meet their developmental needs?

My Project

The materials I am requesting will benefit my students greatly. At the beginning of the school year fine motor skills are improving in the first grade, but they are not perfected yet. A first grader recently announced to me, "When you write fast things go all scribble-scrabble!" And it's true: unless first graders go nice and slow and concentrate on what they are doing, their writing does indeed tend to go all scribble-scrabble. Using a large pencil and Jumbo crayons will help them write appropriately and illustrate their writing so they can be proud of their work. Glue sticks are the best invention in the wold. With these fine motor skills not perfected using liquid glue can be a nightmare. Having the control of a glue stick will be very helpful to my energetic 6 & 7 year olds.
