My Students
My English Language Arts classroom is a place where I strive to create lifelong readers. My students are curious and can easily get absorbed in what they are reading. Fifth grade is a year they are really starting to finding their independence. I allow my students to choose whatever they want to read for independent reading. This helps keep them engaged!
I have a variety of students who are served in my classroom.
In my classroom I have inclusion special education students, students with dyslexia, students with various disabilities, English language learners and general education students. Each student is unique in their own way and I love sharing the gift of reading with them!
My Project
Each new school year brings a unique set of students. My students need more books that match their interests, so that they will enjoy reading. My students get choice independent reading everyday in my class. Some of my students struggle to find a book that interests them. When they do hear about a book they would like to read, it is often checked out of the library and has a long waiting list.
By providing more high interest books, I feel that I can accomplish my goal of helping each one of my student find the joy in reading.
This project will improve my classroom library, provide more options for my students and get more of my students reading.
