Help me give my students the joy of reading in books that look like them.

My Students

We have developed Hive Time in the media center to provide students with an opportunity to enjoy reading in a relaxing and peaceful environment. Hive Time is our dedicated independent reading time. Students are able to bring their own pillows and blankets to lay on the floor and read.

My students want to read books that reflect their lives.

Students are required to reading certain novels in class. Hive Time allows independent reading. They can read what they want and enjoy.

My Project

Students need to be able to see themselves in the books they ready. Some students pull away from reading because they are required to read books that look nothing like them. They want to read a book that hits closer to home. Books that reflect their culture and background.

I have selected books that reflect the demographics of the school.

I have also selected books that students have requested. I feel that these books will bring joy to our students and empower them to read more.

I would like this project to provide pillows and seating cushions for students to use during Hive Time.
