My students are creative, caring, and very energetic. Our classroom is a hands-on learning community. I work with children that are 4 and 5 years-old. Their ability to love learning excites me to find new and exciting ways to teach things to them. They love to learn about new things. They love to look about pictures and talk about them. They love to look and ask many questions about things they have seen on the playground. Our school is a preschool-second grade building and is part of one of the largest urban school districts in my state. All of the students attending in our district receive free lunch and are living at or below the poverty line.
My Project
The texts I am requesting will be used for our Close Reads during our literacy lessons each week. I will use a fiction book to create a joy of reading in my students. I will be teaching many of the literacy skills that Prekindergarten students should master by the end of the year - unpacking 1 or more Literacy Skill Focus Standards. These lessons are aligned to the Early Learning Standards in Ohio.
Though these weekly themes and texts my goal is to get students talking about books, making real-life connections, learning life skills, and learning new vocabulary.
I have already obtained some of the books on my list to support the weekly themes. They have gotten costly and need some help obtaining the rest.
