My students are creative, caring, and very energetic. Our classroom is a hands-on learning community. I work with children that are four and five-year-olds. Their ability to love learning excites me to find new and exciting ways to teach things to them. They love to learn about new things. They love to look at pictures and talk about them. They love to look and ask many questions about things they have seen on the playground.
Our school is a preschool-second grade building and is part of one of the largest urban school districts in my state.
All of the students attending in our district receive free lunch and are living at or below the poverty line.
My Project
The texts I am requesting will be used for our Close Reads during our literacy lessons each week. Some books I am asking for include Bug Zoo, I Like Myself, Stick and Stone, Plant the Tiny Seed, Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site, Cat's Colors, There Was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Clover!, and Storm Is Coming! The portable project cases are to organize my reading and instructional materials.
I will use a fiction book to create a joy of reading in my students.
I will be teaching many of the literacy skills that pre-kindergarten students should master by the end of the year - unpacking one or more Literacy Skill Focus Standards. These lessons are aligned to the Early Learning Standards in Ohio. Though these weekly themes and texts my goal is to get students talking about books, making real-life connections, learning life skills, and learning new vocabulary.
I have already obtained some of the books on my list to support the weekly themes. They have gotten costly and I need some help obtaining the rest.
