Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Due to COVID-19, we are now navigating a world where learning takes place in blended classroom settings. Therefore, virtual and in-person teaching experiences are what shapes my students ability to create, process, and apply information. Even though virtual classrooms have become an essential part of learning, in-person interactions are vital to development, especially social and communication skills.
My students are primarily from low social economic backgrounds.
They are a dynamic group who strive to achieve positive outcomes regardless of the challenges they face. They are eager to learn. I take pride in my job as a teacher and my role in supporting my students greatest academic achievements.
My Project
Dr. Seuss said, "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go." My students enjoy reading and listening to stories. Whether at home virtually or in-person in school, my students are always asking me to read them a story. They have taken a liking to the author Mo Willems. The various characters and themes in Mo Willems' books have become apart of an author study.
My students have experienced learning loss due to COVID-19.
This academic slide is real and I see the impact everyday. I want to continue to foster my students eagerness and curiosity for learning by using their interests as a foundation to support this development. My students will use the Mo Willems books to compare/contrast themes, analyze text and illustrations, develop their writing, form connections through shared reading experiences, and continue to develop their interest in reading. This is especially vital for my students because they are new readers and some are unwilling and hesitant to read.
