My Project

Dear DonorsChoose Supporters,

I am thrilled to present our project, Journey to Understanding: Multi-Sensory Exploration Through "The Only Road," aimed at engaging our diverse seventh-grade students in an immersive study of migration, cultural diffusion, and the human experience.

Our unit, Movement and Cultural Diffusion, centers on the impactful narrative of "The Only Road" by Alexandra Diaz. Through a mix of literary exploration and artistic activities, we seek to create a dynamic learning experience that appeals to multiple intelligences.

Our goals with this project include literary engagement, developing literacy skills and a love for reading through a shared reading experience of "The Only Road." Multi-sensory learning utilizes varied activities—mapping, role-playing, creative writing, and art—to cater to diverse learning styles. Author interaction connects students with Alexandra Diaz through a Zoom session, fostering insights into the writing process and meaningful discussions. Cultural exploration shares diverse immigration stories, with a focus on our school's large Hispanic population, recovery, fostering empathy and understanding. Journaling for critical thinking integrates reflective journaling to encourage critical thinking about characters' experiences and broader themes. Community building celebrates our school's diversity, creating an inclusive learning environment that builds bridges of understanding.

Our school boasts a diverse community, particularly with a significant Hispanic population. This project uniquely resonates with our students, weaving together different immigrant experiences to celebrate diversity and promote empathy.

We are excited about the potential impact of this project on our students and invite your support in creating an inclusive, compassionate, and enriching learning environment and weather.
