My Students
I teach a wonderful group of third graders in a small district in Washington. My students have a variety of needs and levels of learning. Some love to read and I can't get them to put books down, some love their math and even ask for extra homework!
My students come to school eager to learn every day.
They never back down from a challenge, and the looks on their faces when they complete a difficult task is my favorite part of this job. This classroom is not just a classroom, we are a community who share in our successes and grow from our failures. While preparing them to move onto fourth grade, we also focus on having a growth mindset and how they can do good for the world, even in the third grade!
My Project
I am requesting a class set of "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane." Read aloud is the best of the day. This story is short and sweet one with many twists and turns that students are excited to read every year.
This story has so many visuals that my students would really benefit seeing in their own book.
Kate DiCamillo brings readers into the world of a lost toy and its many owners. There are many twists and turns that shock my students each time we read this.
I know putting a copy of this book in each of my students' hands will help students access higher level text and be more engaged. When students are able to have their own copy of a story in their hands, they are able to grow in many reading areas such as vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.
