Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many students at Key are English Learners from different parts of the world. We are a title 1 school: Kindergarten to 6th grade. Our students come from rich cultural backgrounds that should be shared, acknowledged and affirmed so that the students feel at home and valued.
My Project
My students come from varied cultural background: Africa, Asia, Latin America, and America. This project will help them learn about each other through art.
This project will help myself and my students appreciate the richness of the different cultures we all come from, and respect, value and acknowledge the differences and similarities each one of us brings to the classroom.
The theme of our art classes this year will be travel through the world and learn about the culture and art of the different places and cultures. The lessons will culminate in students creating contemporary art in the style of the art they have learned about and or using it as inspiration for ideas.
For this project we need a world map and idea journals for each of the students. The map of the world will help visualize the physical locations and learn the geography of the world. The idea journals will help them sketch and write out their ideas.
