This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are mostly Spanish-speaking and many are new to the U.S. Some are just beginning to read and write in English, often relying on AI tools to participate in class. Despite these challenges, they are deeply curious, thoughtful, and eager to learn.

My students are navigating a new language, a new culture in a country where many do not feel welcome, and the complex world of high school chemistry—all at once.

They thrive when given opportunities to express themselves, especially through writing and discussion.

Our class needs materials that support both language development and personal connection to learning.To support our growth, I’m requesting:

30 copies of The Book of Alchemy by Suleika Jaouad

1 copy of A Demo a Day: A Year of Chemical Demonstrations

35 wide-ruled journals

Pencils for daily writing and reflection

Paper towels, dish soap, and a broken glass container for safe and clean lab practices.

These materials will help us launch a classroom routine called Write, Pair, Discuss, where students reflect on their learning, connect science to their lives, and build confidence in expressing themselves in English and Spanish.

With your help, these tools will help students build language, confidence, and curiosity—one lab and one reflection at a time.
